Hal ini membuat karbohidrat sederhana menjadi sumber energi yang lebih cepat dicerna oleh tubuh. Pada jenis karbohidrat ini hanya terkandung 1 ataupun 2 molekul gula saja. Terdapat 2 kategori pada karbohidrat kompleks, yaitu Oligosakarida dan Polisakarida.
