Ternyata, plastik itu salah satu benda yang memiliki senyawa polimer. <em>Nah<\/em>, biar lebih paham lagi, kita bahas detailnya <em>yuk<\/em>!<br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify; font-weight: bold; font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"color: #2eb5c0;\">Pengertian Polimer<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pada tahun 1833, Jons Jacob Berzelius menyaran<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">kan bahwa senyawa dengan rumus sama, tapi strukturnya berbeda, dinamakan isomer. Ia juga menyarankan bahwa senyawa dengan rumus empiris sama, tapi berbeda massa molekulnya, disebut polimer. Akhirnya, <strong>polimer diartikan sebagai senyawa dengan rumus molekul besar<\/strong>, contohnya karet alam [-CH2C(CH3)=CHCH2-]. Polimer mengandung rantai panjang dengan satuan berulang. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selain itu, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>contoh lain dari polimer yang mengandung satuan berulang yaitu selulosa<\/strong>. Apakah itu? <span class=\"_Tgc\">Selulosa adalah senyawa organik yang paling umum di Bumi. Sekitar 33% dari semua materi tanaman adalah selulosa. <\/span> Kayu memiliki sekitar 50% berat selulosa, sedangkan kapas hampir 90% selulosa. Selulosa dari pulp kayu digunakan untuk membuat kertas. Dalam seratus tahun terakhir, senyawa ini juga dipakai sebagai bahan awal untuk sintesis plastik, fiber sintesis plastik, dan fiber sintesis pertama. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-web.ruangguru.com\/landing-pages\/assets\/hs\/senyawa%20polimer%20-%20tahukah%20kamu.png\" alt=\"selulosa adalah\" width=\"600\" style=\"width: 600px; display: block; margin: 0px auto;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selulosa dari bubur kayu mengandung banyak pengotor yang digunakan untuk membuat fiber. Selulosa tersebut dapat dimurnikan dengan melarutkannya ke dalam campuran NaOH dan CS<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Jika larutan kental ini dilewatkan ke dalam lubang sempit pada mulut pipa dalam bak asam, fiber selulosa yang dikenal sebagai <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rayon<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> akan terbentuk. Proses serupa digunakan untuk membuat film (lapisan tipis) selulosa yang dikenal sebagai <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">selopan<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Setiap satuan berulang<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013C<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">H<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> dalam selulosa mengandung tiga gugus \u2013OH yang dapat bereaksi dengan asam nitrat. Kemudian campuran tersebut membentuk ester nitrat yang dikenal sebagai selulosa nitrat. <strong>Tahun 1869, John Wesley Hyatt menemukan bahwa campuran selulosa nitrat dan kamfor yang dilarutkan ke dalam alkohol menghasilkan plastik, bernama seluloid.<\/strong> Kemudian, seluloid digunakan sebagai pengganti gading dalam industri berbagai barang, mulai dari sisir sampai bola bilyar. Selulosa nitrat mudah terbakar, dan sekarang diganti oleh plastik jenis lain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jadi, polimer itu dibentuk melalui ikatan antarmonomer dengan molekul kecil. Misalnya polietilen, dibentuk melalui polimerisasi molekul etilen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 18px;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-web.ruangguru.com\/landing-pages\/assets\/hs\/etilen%20politetilen.png\" alt=\"etilen politetilen\" width=\"600\" style=\"width: 600px; display: block; margin: 0px auto;\"><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Polietilen disebut polimer rantai lurus<\/strong>, sebab mengandung ikatan karbon-karbon yang panjang. Bentuk ini sebenarnya menyesatkan, sebab geometri&nbsp;di sekitar atom karbon adalah tetrahedral, sehingga rantai tidak lurus. <\/span><span>Akibat pertumbuhan, rantai polimer dapat berlipat secara random membentuk struktur. Adapun p<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">olimer dengan cabang pada selang yang tidak beraturan sepanjang rantai polimer dinamakan polimer bercabang. Material polimer yang berikatan silang antara rantai polimer membuat polimer lebih plastis. Misalnya pada vulkanisasi karet, hasil dari pemasukkan rantai-rantai pendek dari atom belerang yang mengikat rantai polimer dalam karet alam. Ikatan silang yang berat menghasilkan material yang dikenal sebagai plastik termoset.
