Kandungan utama bahan bakar minyak adalah hidrokarbon, serta sedikit senyawa belerang, nitrogen dan oksigen. <strong>Pembakaran sempurna hidrokarbon<\/strong> dalam minyak bumi menghasilkan karbon dioksida dan uap air. Sementara itu<strong> pembakaran tidak sempurna<\/strong> akan menghasilkan partikel padat yang dikenal dengan asap dan berisi butiran-butiran halus dari karbon (jelaga), karbon monoksida, karbon dioksida, dan uap air.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bensin merupakan salah satu hasil pengolahan minyak bumi yang kandungan utamanya adalah oktana (C8H18).<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-web.ruangguru.com\/landing-pages\/assets\/hs\/Kimia%2011%20-%20rumus%20kandungan%20bensin.png\" alt=\"rumus pembakaran bahan bakar\" width=\"640\" style=\"width: 640px; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"dampak pembakaran bahan bakar\" caption=\"false\" data-constrained=\"true\"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jika kita perhatikan reaksi pembakaran sempurna (reaksi 1) dan tidak sempurna (reaksi 2 dan 3), dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembakaran dapat berlangsung sempurna atau tidaknya, ditentukan oleh perbandingan jumlah (volume) bensin (C8H18) dengan volume gas oksigen (O2). Semakin terbatas jumlah oksigen, semakin tidak sempurna pembakaran yang terjadi, dan semakin banyak jelaga (C) yang dihasilkan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gas karbon dioksida (CO2) merupakan gas rumah kaca yang dapat menyebabkan terjadinya pemanasan global, sedangkan gas karbon monoksida akan berikatan dengan hemoglobin sehingga mengganggu fungsi hemoglobin dalam mengikat oksigen. Akibatnya, pada kadar tertentu dapat menyebabkan kematian. Sementara itu, jelaga merupakan serbuk halus dari karbon (C) yang jika terhirup dapat merusak alat pernafasan.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-web.ruangguru.com\/landing-pages\/assets\/hs\/Kimia%2011%20-%20tahukah%20kamu%20(dampak%20asap%20kendaraan%20bermotor).png\" alt=\"fakta dampak pembakaran\" width=\"640\" style=\"width: 640px; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"dampak pembakaran bahan bakar\" caption=\"false\" data-constrained=\"true\"><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Selain gas karbon dioksida dan karbon monoksida, dampak pembakaran bahan bakar dalam mesin kendaraan bermotor dapat menghasilkan gas belerang dioksida (SO2) karena di dalam minyak bumi terdapat senyawa belerang, serta gas oksida nitrogen (NOx) karena untuk membakar bahan bakar (bensin) dalam mesin digunakan udara sebagai sumber oksigen dan udara mengandung gas nitrogen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Belerang dari minyak bumi dapat teroksidasi menjadi gas belerang dioksida (SO2)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>S(s) + O2(g) \u2192 SO2(g)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ketika di udara gas SO2 ini dapat teroksidasi mejadi gas SO3.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SO2(g) + O2(g) \u2192 SO3(g)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gas SO3 ini sangat mudah bereaksi dengan air menghasilkan asam sulfat, sehingga gas SO3 ini dapat menyebabkan <strong>hujan asam<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SO3(g) + H2O(l) \u2192 H2SO4(aq)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pada suhu tinggi, di dalam mesin kendaraan bermotor dapat terjadi reaksi antara nitrogen dan oksigen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>N2(g) + O2(g) \u2192 NOx(g)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gas oksida nitrogen dalam kadar tinggi dapat menyebabkan iritasi pada mata sehingga menyebabkan mata perih dan merah.
