Metanol (Sumber: machinex.vn)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pertama adalah metanol, (CH<sub>3<\/sub>OH) sering juga disebut dengan <strong>alkohol kayu <em>(wood alcohol)<\/em><\/strong> karena pada awalnya dibuat dari distilasi kering pada kayu. Proses pembuatan metanol secara sintesis di dunia industri dilakukan melaui reaksi antara karbon monoksida (CO) dan gas hidrogen (H<sub>2<\/sub>) pada temperatur dan tekanan tinggi. Reaksi pembuatan metanol ini menggunakan katalis, contohnya <strong>Fe<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>3<\/sub><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>CO(g) + H<sub>2<\/sub>(g) \u2192 CH<sub>3<\/sub>OH (dengan bantuan Fe<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>3<\/sub>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Metanol itu sangat beracun <em>lho<\/em>, bisa menyebabkan kebutaan. Metanol banyak digunakan sebagai bahan baku etanol dan bahan polimer. Metanol juga banyak digunakan sebagai pencampur bensin maupun spirtus. Sebagai bahan bakar, metanol mempunyai keunggulan dibandingkan bensin, yaitu proses pembakarannya bisa lebih sempurna, <em>yaa<\/em> tetapi biaya produksinya agak lebih mahal.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 18px;\"><strong>2. Etanol diproduksi dengan proses fermentasi karbohidrat, misalnya fermentasi ubi kayu yang sering disebut dengan pembuatan tape. Proses perubahan karbohidrat menjadi etanol dilakukan dengan bantuan enzim.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Karbohidrat \u2192 C<sub>6<\/sub>H<sub>12<\/sub>O<sub>6<\/sub> \u2192 <sub>2<\/sub>CH<sub>3<\/sub>CH<sub>2<\/sub>OH + <sub>2<\/sub>CO<sub>2<\/sub>(g) (dengan bantuan enzim)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Glukosa&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;etanol<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Proses ini menghasilkan energi yang dimanfaatkan oleh mikroorganisme untuk tumbuh dan berkembang biak. Proses fermentasi tidak bisa menghasilkan etanol dengan konsentrasi tinggi. Hal ini disebabkan pada konsentrasi alkohol lebih dari 15%, maka mikroorganisme akan mati. Untuk itu, biasanya hasil proses fermentasi ditingkatkan konsentrasi alkoholnya dengan teknik distilasi. Di dunia industri, etanol diproduksi secara besar \u2013 besaran dengan reaksi adisi air dan etena pada temperatur 280<sup>o<\/sup>C dan tekanan 300 atmosfer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>CH<sub>2<\/sub> = CH<sub>2<\/sub> + H<sub>2<\/sub>O \u2192 CH<sub>3<\/sub>CH<sub>2<\/sub>OH (dengan katalis H<sub>2<\/sub>SO<sub>4<\/sub>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Etena&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; etanol<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Etanol banyak digunakan sebagai pelarut organik dan bahan baku untuk senyawa industri seperti pewarna, obat sintesis, bahan kosmetik, bahan peledak, bahan bakar, dan minuman beralkohol (anggur dan bir). Etanol tidak bersifat racun, tetapi dalam jumlah yang banyak akan menyebabkan mabuk, karena etanol bekerja dengan aktivitas otak. Dampak lain dari sistem kerja alkohol adalah mengakibatkan kecanduan.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify; font-size: 18px;\"><strong>3. Etilen Glikol (Sumber: http:\/\/www.wikiwand.com)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kemudian yang ke tiga, polialkohol yang mempunyai dua gugus \u2013OH diberi nama alkanadiol, <strong>contohnya 1,2-etanadiol (etilen glikol)<\/strong>, sedangkan polialkohol dengan tiga gugus \u2013OH diberi nama alkanatriol, <strong>contohnya 1,2,3-propanatriol (gliserol)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Etilen glikol atau biasa disebut glikol saja termasuk <strong>alkohol alifatik<\/strong> dengan <strong>dua gugus hidroksil<\/strong>. Istilah glikol berasal dari <strong>bahasa Yunani glykis<\/strong> yang berarti manis. Etilen glikol merupakan zat cair tidak berwarna, larut dalam air, berasa manis, <strong>titik didih 198<sup><sub>o<\/sub><\/sup>C dan bersifat racun<\/strong>. Glikol dapat membeku pada <strong>suhu rendah (-11,5 <sup>o<\/sup>C)<\/strong> sehingga glikol biasa digunakan sebagai bahan anti beku pada radiator mobil. Dalam industri, etilen glikol digunakan sebagai pelarut cat, bahan pelembut, bahan dasar industri serat sintesis seperti Dacron. Gilserol atau disebut juga sebagai gliserin, merupakan zat cair kental dengan titik leleh 18<sup>o<\/sup>C dan titik didih 290<sup>o<\/sup>C, bersifat higroskopis, dan berasa manis.
